Christina's World or Natalie's World
Impressionist or Expressionist?

Andrew Wyeth
Left: Andrew C. Wyeth, 1917 - 2009 "Christina's World" 1948 32.25 x 47.75 Tempera on Panel. This painting may be viewed at the MoMA.

Right: Michelle Torrez, "Natalie's World" 12 x 24 Oil.  This painting is available at Saks Galleries.

Andrew Wyeth said of this painting, "The challenge to me was to do justice to her extraordinary conquest of a life which most people would consider hopeless."  In this style of painting, known as magic realism, everyday scenes are imbued with poetic mystery. Andrew Wyeth's favorite subjects were land and people (remarks credited to the MoMA website).

Michelle Torrez communicates the beauty of unlikely emotions in all of her figuratives. Her powerful brushstrokes and elegant color work are vivid and expressionistic.  The emotional entanglement created by each of Michelle's paintings is unforgettable.  Mark your calendar for Michelle Torrez' new solo exhibition at Saks Galleries Cherry Creek in October 2014.
