PIONEERS GO 1-2 DURING NEBRASKA WEEKEND

DENVER NOTCHED THEIR FIRST DUAL-MATCH SWEEP OF THE SEASON, 7-0 OVER SUMMIT LEAGUE OPPONENT OMAHA, BUT FELL IN TIGHT MATCHES TO NEBRASKA AND WICHITA STATE.

OMAHA, NEB. - The No. 51 University of Denver women's tennis team blew out Summit League opponent Omaha Thursday afternoon at Miracle Hill Golf Course and Tennis Center. The Pioneers beat the Mavericks, 7-0, with a sixth straight doubles point. 

On Friday, however, the Pioneers stumbled against the Nebraska Cornhuskers, who remained undefeated at 10-0. Although the overall team score was 6-1, the doubles point was incredibly close, and the Pios had singles match points on two courts. 

In the third match of the weekend, the team could not avenge an early season loss to the No. 29 Wichita State Shockers on Saturday night.

Despite fighting hard and falling short with both losses, there were some bright spots. Freshman Julia O'Loughlin is currently on a seven match singles victory streak, most recently defeating Stafford (UNO), 6-1, 6-1; Hanna (Nebraska) 4-6, 6-3, 1-0 (7-5); and Stevens (Wichita State), 6-1, 6-4. 

Next up for the Pioneers will be a trip to Boise, Idaho on March 7, to take on the Boise State Broncos at 11:00 a.m. MT.
